Doctor Who: A Matter of Life and Death TPB

This trade could have gone one of two ways. This Doctor Who story could have been contrived and overworked, or it could embody the essence of the Eighth Doctor (8). I’m happy to say that George Mann’s words and Emma Vieceli’s art achieve the latter. These 128 pages flew by and left me wanting more!

Mann introduces us to his version of 8 and Josie his newest companion. She remains a mystery wrapped in an enigma from page one. Her generous and creative nature pairs well with 8’s romantic side. Thrust into a world of cheesy monsters and one-liners, readers are left to wonder what is so special about Josie, which we don’t discover until the very end.

Each story arc melded into the next beautifully. This is another one that you can share with the kiddos.

I have to admit that I was so swept away in one of the arcs that I forgot all about it being time to discover Josie’s secret.

I consider myself a die-hard Whovian. You may think that this would create a bias for a story centered on my favorite character of all time. However, this trade had decades of tradition and excellence to live up to. I’m quite surprised it did.

My only complaint was that I came to the last page. Now, I’m left in the 1st stage of reading grief. It can’t be over. It just can’t!

Volume 2 can’t come out fast enough!
