Amazon Developing Conan the Barbarian Series

Feb 6, 2018

Robert E Howard’s legendary hero Conan the Barbarian is coming back to the small screen with a new series.

According to multiple sources, Amazon is developing a new live action series based on the Cimmerian hero Conan the Barbarian. The project hails from Colony co-creator Ryan Condal, Game of Thrones director Miguel Sapochnik, Fargo and The Handmaid’s Tale executive producer Warren Littlefield, Pathfinder Media and Endeavor Content.

According to Deadline, “Conan retells the classic character’s story via a return to his literary origins. Driven out of his tribal homelands, Conan wanders the mysterious and treacherous world of civilization where he searches for purpose in a place that rejects him as a mindless savage.”

The new Conan series falls in line with Amazon’s push for high concept fantasy/sci-fi dramas including the upcoming Lord of the Rings series for the streaming service. Whether this new adaptation will follow the original Howard tales is anyone’s guess.
