Aquaman Casts its Black Manta

Jan 31, 2017

As a possible method of regaining control of the news cycle after the announcement that Ben Affleck would not be directing the stand alone Batman film, DC Films has announced that they have cast the villain in their upcoming (hopefully) Aquaman movie.

With the film being pushed back (a theme that is becoming the norm for DC Films), the company has had time to complete its casting of the role of Black Manta. Yahya Abdul-Mateen II has been cast as Aquaman’s arch-enemy. The actor has recently received critical acclaim for his role as Cadillac in the Baz Luhrmann Netflix series The Get Down. He can next be seen in the soon to be released Baywatch movie opposite Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

There’s no word on whether he will be the main villain in the film as Patrick Wilson (The Conjuring) was previously announced as Aquaman’s villainous half-brother Ocean Master, but we will continue to follow the production and let you know what we find out.

Aquaman is set to be released October 5, 2018
