The highly anticipated animated film, Batman: The Killing Joke will be release this summer and an unofficial video has revealed some information regarding Batgirl’s role in the upcoming film. The animated film is based on the 1988 story from Alan Moore and Brian Bolland.

During the video, according to Bruce Timm, it appears Barbara Gordon will have a much bigger role in the animated film than she did in the original telling.

“We thought ‘how can we make it a full length feature? How can we expand this story without just padding it?’ So, the idea that we came up with was to create a prequel to the story,” said Bruce Timm. He went on to say, “I think it was really important to show Batgirl in action to get a sense of who she was. The audience gets to spend that time with Barbara Gordon as a person. We get to like her more, we get to understand who she is as a character.”
