One of the most influential writers and creators in comic books has caused a shakeup in the industry.

Writer Brian Michael Bendis is leaving Marvel Comics after 17 years after signing a multiyear deal with DC Comics.

New York Comic Con 2006

For anyone unfamiliar with Bendis, he has been a staple of Marvel comics for almost two decades. He is the creator of characters like Miles Morales, Jessica Jones and Riri Williams. He is the mastermind behind Ultimate Spider-Man. From 2001-2006 he wrote some of the greatest Daredevil stories ever and revitalized the character along with Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Bendis is also responsible for one of the storylines that redefined the X-Men Universe, House of M. He also wrote the 2008 Secret Invasion storyline that had many Marvel figures replaced by Skrulls operating in secret for years.

His influence on the characters that he wrote for Marvel is clearly evident in many of the Marvel Studios movies and series. It will be interesting to see what influence Bendis might have in the DC Extended Universe when he comes on board.
