Chaos Walking is a series of young adult novels that take place in a dystopian world (like most of them do) where all living creatures can hear each other’s thoughts in a series of images, words and sound. The phenomenon, called “Noise”, is leading different factions in the world closer and closer to war. There are three books in the series: The Knife of Never Letting Go, The Ask and the Answer and Monsters of Men. The novels were written by Patrick Ness, who’s 2011 book A Monster Calls was adapted into a movie last year starring Felicity Jones and Liam Neeson.

Tom Holland will play Todd Hewitt, a young man who has discovered a patch of silence in a world filled with Noise. When he tells his parents, they immediately tell him that he has to go on the run with a map and a cryptic message. He eventually discovers that the silence is being produced by a girl named Viola.

Daisy Ridley would play Viola Eade. Viola is the sole survivor of her parents crashed ship on New World. She barely speaks due to being in shock, but eventually connects with Todd, who is enamored at her inability to be affected by the Noise. Her ship is one of several with colonists on their way to New World to settle.

The film is being written by Jamie Linden (Money Monster) and Charlie Kaufman (Being John Malkovich). The film is to be directed by Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow / The Bourne Identity).
