On a quarterly earnings call with investors, Walt Disney Company chairman and CEO Bob Iger announced a slew of new series coming to the company’s streaming service currently in development. One of those series will be a live action Star Wars series. The push for original programming and this announcement coincides with the announcement that Star Wars The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson will be overseeing a new Star Wars trilogy that will expand the universe beyond the Skywalker story.

While there have been several animated Star Wars series over the years including Disney XD’s Star Wars Rebels, this will be the first live action Star Wars series. Whether the series will take place during the current trilogy time period or be a prequel remains to be seen.
