Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom: Triumph and Torment

It’s Doctor vs Doctor in this graphic novel originally published in July 1989. A battle of wit and will between the Sorcerer Supreme and the world’s second greatest Scientist. This book was written by Roger Stern and penciled by Hellboy creator and artist Mike Mignola.

Doctor Doom, in an extremely rare moment of humility, is seeking help from Doctor Strange for a very personal and tragic mission. Every year on Midsummer’s Eve, Victor Von Doom battles the forces of Mephisto for one purpose, to free the soul of his mother. Every year, he fails. In seeking help from the Master of the Mystic Arts, he believes that he can finally travel to Mephisto’s realm and convince the demon to release his mother’s soul. Strange agrees and the reluctant allies travel to the depths of hell to try to complete this mission of mercy. When confronted with Mephisto himself, he gives Doom a choice that has the both of them ponder whether the price of one soul is worth the consequences of their actions. Knowing the nature of Doom, there is definitely a betrayal coming and a twist ending that I will not spoil. So check it out for yourself and tell me what you think.
