First Footage from Avengers: Infinity War Brings the House Down

Jul 15, 2017

As the reveals continue to trickle out of Disney’s D23 Expo, one of the most anticipated presentations of the entire event has been the Marvel Studios presentation and, according to reports from the scene, it did not disappoint.

According to multiple reports from The Hollywood Reporter, Entertainment Weekly and others, the footage shown at the event brought everyone to their feet with thundering applause. While no footage is currently available from the event, I will endeavor to describe the footage that was shown.

First of all, Kevin Feige brought out many of the members of the huge cast of Infinity War including Robert Downey Jr (Iron Man), Josh Brolin (Thanos), Tom Holland (Spider-Man), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange), Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Paul Bettany (Vision), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Pom Klemetieff (Mantis), Karen Gillan (Nebula), Dave Bautista (Drax), Don Cheadle (War Machine), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) and Anthony Mackie (Falcon). Joining the cast was co-director Joe Russo, whose brother Anthony Russo is still currently filming.

The trailer can only be described as epic (It can also only be described because it was exclusive to attendees only). It opens with the Guardians on the Milano flying through space as Star Lord (Chris Pratt) telling the rest of the crew to put their “mean faces” on to prepare for what’s next. Suddenly, an unconscious Thor appears on the ship still wearing his gladiator garb from Thor: Ragnarok and is awakened by Mantis. As the Asgardian rises, he looks at the Guardians of the Galaxy as asks “Who the hell are you guys?”

The action moves to Earth where Loki is once again in possession of the Tesseract and Peter Parker is on a school bus when his spider-sense starts alerting him. Some of the other highlights of the footage include Spider-Man’s new suit (possibly the one seen at the end of Spider-Man: Homecoming), a new, bearded look for Captain America along with a new uniform and some intense action throughout.

Some of the action beats include Thanos using the Infinity Gauntlet to pull down part of an alien moon to fight the Avengers. Doctor Strange is also seen battling alongside the Guardians of the Galaxy on the same planet next to Iron Man.

Anthony Russo is currently in Atlanta filming Avengers: Infinity War.

Avengers: Infinity War is scheduled to open May 4, 2018, ten years after the launch of the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the original Iron Man.
