Early this morning 20th Century Fox released the first teaser trailer for their upcoming film The New Mutants.
The New Mutants is based on the Marvel Comic series of the same name which features a group of young Mutants learning how to use their powers in a world that hates and fears them.
This new film looks to lean into the fear element heavily. This new film has all the hallmarks of a horror film in its pacing with jump scares and quick cuts reminiscent of classic slasher films. There is a definite tonal shift with The New Mutants in comparison to other films set in the X-Men universe. It will be interesting to see if it pays off.

From the synopsis, it looks like the film will focus on a group of young mutants locked in a hidden government facility with Dr. Cecilia Reyes looking after them as they learn to manifest and control their powers. How the horror/thriller aspects of the trailer play into the plot remains to be seen.
The New Mutants stars Anya Taylor-Joy (Magick), Maisie Williams (Wolfsbane), Charlie Heaton (Cannonball), Henry Zaga (Sunspot), Blu Hunt (Mirage) and Alice Braga (Dr. Cecilia Reyes). It is scheduled for release April 13, 2018.
