Konami to Bring Classic Game ‘Contra’ to The Big Screen

Oct 26, 2017

Fans of the classic side scrolling shooter Contra got a bit of interesting news today from the classic games publisher Konami.

Konami Digital Entertainment announced that the classic video game series Contra would be made into a live action film as well as a TV series. The original button masher was introduced in 1987 and has been popular through several sequels. While the original game was more about digital clones of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone blowing up aliens and shooting everything that moved, a feature film might have to inject some plot and dialogue between the battle scenes.

According to China Film Insider, the working synopsis for the film will have main characters Bill and Lance sent on a combat mission to stop the Red Falcon Organization on an uninhabited island in the South China Sea. Unbeknownst to them, a meteorite landed on the alien years before making the terrorist organization the least of their problems.

Video Game movies do not have the best pedigree unfortunately and as a fan of the Contra series, I find myself worried about the prospect of a movie based on one of my favorite games from my youth. Let me know what you think in the comments below.
