Let’s Go On An Adventure With Geek Fuel’s May Box (Review)

May 25, 2016

Prepare for adventure and fourth wall breaking fun with May’s Geek Fuel Mystery Box. This month’s box features treasures from all across the geeky globe to entice the adventure in all of us. Fans of Sony’s Uncharted, Marvel’s Deadpool and hit fantasy series Game of Thrones will be delighted by Geek Fuel’s May offerings.

Nathan Drake makes his presence known with 2 detailed and vibrant mini posters and a must have for any would be Drake cosplayer, Sir Francis Drake’s Lost Ring. Although admittedly I am not the biggest Uncharted fan the ring and the box it comes in is an impressive collectible to receive in a monthly box and something I will enjoy giving to one of my friends who actually loves the game. Unfortunately though the other Uncharted items, the 2 mini posters, while gorgeous are something that will get stuffed in a closet never to be seen again.

As always diversity is the key to Geek Fuel’s success and thus another Nolan North voiced character shares the spotlight with Uncharted. Deadpool isn’t out done with his on exclusive merch that will make your office space a little more livable. In this writer’s opinion no work space is complete without the Merc with the Mouth and Geek Fuel provides 2 Deadpool themed items to satiate your need to break the fourth wall. The Deadpool “Ouchie” Sketch and monitor mate are both cute, unique and so very Deadpool.

If dragons and drama are more your speed May’s box features an exclusive tee that fans of Tynion Lannister and a good Merlot can’t pass up. The Lannister Estates Tyrions Vineyard exclusive Geek Fuel t-shirt is the perfect wardrobe piece to impress all your GOT friends. Bright purple and featuring Tyrions favorite drink this t-shirt’s only downfall is its bulky, heavy design. So while it is a must have for any Game of Thrones fan, it maybe best suited for those cooler days. And in case you want to imbibe some celebratory drink in your new GOT shirt, May’s box also features this great Refueling Pint glass.

This months treat for gamers is also adventure themed as Geek Fuel offers a steam code for the high octane, top down, dungeon-crawling arena game, The Weaponographist. In the game you play Doug McGrave, an unrepentant jerk who suffers from a terrible curse (this guy sounds a lot like another hero, who shares this box). While I can’t attest to the quality of the game I can say when I offered it to the staff here at GWW, the game team was eager to dive in.

As always our Geek Fuel tour concludes with the Geek Fuel magazine. This month’s mag is probably my favorite to date as it features 2 great features one on the upcoming movie X-Men Apocalypse and the other on Uncharted. Both features are designed and written to get us geeks primed for their upcoming releases. It was a nice break from the always popular Geek Gift Guide.

In case you missed it here are all the items featured Geek Fuel’s May box.

  • Sir Francis Drake’s Lost Ring
  • Uncharted 4 Double Sided Mini Posters
  • Lannester Estates Tyrions Vineyard Tee
  • Refueling Pint
  • Deadpool “Ouchie” Sketch
  • Deadpool Monitor Mate
  • The Weaponographist Download Steam Game

Our adventure has come to an end and we are left with a mixed bag of riches. Fans of Uncharted will definitely be impressed with Sir Francis’ Drake’s Lost Ring but may be disappointed by the mini posters. And while I am a huge Deadpool fan who is always looking to decorate his desk with more geeky gear, if your are not, then these items may just feel like clutter. Luckily there is a shinning light for those less adventurous as the Tyrions Vineyard Tee and Refueling pint glass are two items even the harshest critic can’t turn away. May’s Geek Fuel box maybe a little too divided but you are sure to find something you love.
