NVIDIA GRID Release Date Announced

Nov 13, 2014

Today is a big day for PC gamers, as NVIDIA has taken a huge step forward towards making PC gaming more accessible, as well as mobile. Just yesterday WCCFTECH reported NVIDIA executive Jen-Hsung Huang as stating that the hay day of console gaming is at an end. Why would anyone at NVIDIA feel this way yesterday? What did they know that we did not? Well, perhaps that GRID, NVIDIAs cloud gaming service currently in beta, would be released next week. The below press announcement, sent to us by NVIDIA, details more about GRID and how to get it for your SHEILD tablet. We’re doing our best to get our hands on GRID so we can share our thoughts with you.

Press Announcement:

Today NVIDIA announced the GRID on-demand gaming service, as part of a refresh for the SHIELD tablet that includes:

  • Android 5.0 (Lollipop) coming the SHIELD on November 18
  • The Green Box Bundle: Half Life 2, Half Life 2 Episode 1 and Portal. Optimized for the SHIELD and free with qualifying purchase
  • Dabbler 2.0
  • GRID on-demand gaming service

Netflix and Spotify has revolutionized how we enjoy movies and music. GRID promises to bring the same convenience and variety that only a cloud service can offer. Powered by state-of-the-art NVIDA GeForce GPU servers, the GRID service will be available globally.

Think of the GRID Gaming Service as a gaming supercomputer in the cloud that streams PC games with GeForce GTX-quality graphics to your SHIELD device.  It’s like Netflix for games.

Readers can download the new SHIELD Hub app on November 18th from the Google Play Store.  Simply launch the app, select the GRID Games menu, and launch a game to start playing from the cloud. With SHIELD you can instantly access a library of 20 blockbuster PC Games, including:
