The Walking Dead FPS Delayed

Jan 22, 2016

If you didn’t know, Overkill, the developers of Payday and Payday 2, are working on a The Walking Dead FPS based on The Walking Dead comics.  Originally announced in 2014, yeah it’s been a while, the release of the game has been pushed back into the second half of 2017.

Why people hate this game now…

The delay is most likely due to a recent partnership between Starbreeze Studios — Overkill’s parent company — and SmileGate — a prominent Korean Company. The partnership essentially allows Starbreeze to distribute Payday 2 and The Walking Dead game via SmileGate to Asian markets. SmileGate is paying Starbreeze $40 million to help accomplish this as well as allowing them to use its Crossfire Franchise to create new co-op FPS for western markets.

I’m going to be honest. I’m apprehensive about the The Walking Dead game, in general.  I remember the initial announcement and I was super excited for it, but it’s been a long time. To my knowledge there hasn’t been any footage or coverage of the game, and it was originally supposed to come out this year.

Then, there is the developer. Overkill has become pretty infamous the last few months due to its Payday 2 mircotransaction fiasco. You know the one where it said it wouldn’t have mircotransations and then two years later changed their mind. Also, there is the fact that Payday 2 has nearly 40 different pieces of DLC that would cost about $125, if I bought it all right now on Steam. Its business models just don’t appeal to me as a gamer.

Maybe the delay will be good for the game and some of that $40 million dollars will trickle down to make it a better game…but I have my doubts.
