Thor: Ragnarok Synopsis Reveals Hulk Connection

Jan 5, 2017

Walt Disney Studios released a press kit for two of their upcoming films. One of them is the much-anticipated third film in the Thor franchise: Thor: Ragnarok. While there has been news about the production including set photos and the confirmation of Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange having a role in the film, the overall plot has been a bit of a mystery.

One of the biggest mysteries involves the inclusion of Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner aka The Hulk to the cast. When we last saw Hulk, in 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, he was flying solo on a Quinjet and disappeared. Many people speculated and hoped that the introduction of elements from the highly regarded ‘Planet Hulk‘ would be used either in a solo film for the character or to explain his apparent absence. It looks like that question has been answered. According to the official synopsis:

In Marvel Studios’ Thor: Ragnarok, Thor is imprisoned on the other side of the universe without his mighty hammer and finds himself in a race against time to get back to Asgard to stop Ragnarok – the destruction of his homeworld and the end of Asgardian civilization – at the hands of an all-powerful new threat, the ruthless Hela. But first he must survive a deadly gladatorial contest that pits him against his former ally and fellow Avenger – the Incredible Hulk!

The synopsis raises its own interesting set of questions regarding how Thor ended up imprisoned, how he loses Mjolnir and what role Loki might play in the events. While the synopsis does give some information regarding the plot, it is careful not to give too much away and raises more questions than it answers. Personally, I am intrigued to see this plot develop on the big screen.
