15 Films That Have Us Eager For 2020

These are the movies that have us incredibly excited for 2020.

2019 was one incredible year for movies.

You had “Avengers Endgame” break the all-time worldwide box office record and we may have another comic book movie up for a Best Picture nomination in “Joker.” We also saw the Horror Genre have an all-timer year with films like “Doctor Sleep” and “Ready or Not.”

Honestly, when people are trying to make their Top 10 lists for 2019, you will see them hurting when they have to leave films off of it. This year was that good. But 2019 is coming to a close and with another glorious year around the corner, there’s sure to be many incredible films that follow.

Here are the 15 films of 2020 that have us excited the most.

15. A Quiet Place Part II

“A Quiet Place” was a smash hit in 2018, racking in over 340 Million dollars and receiving incredible reviews from both audiences and critics alike. A sequel was inevitable, though many thought Paramount should have left the property alone.

But with John Krasinski returning to both write and direct the horror sequel, we are confident that he will deliver the goods and give audiences one incredible follow-up.

Release Date – March 20

14. Godzilla vs Kong

“Godzilla: King of the Monsters” was one of the most disappointing films of the 2019; both critically and commercially. With many criticizing every battle taking place at night and the sheer stupidity of the human characters.

But no matter how much of a disappointment “King of the Monsters” was, this is the fight that fans have been begging to see for years. Two icons, mono e mono, fight night. Where have we heard this before?

Needless to say, we are extremely intrigued with how this fight will go down.

Release Date – November 20

13. Malignant

It’s a horror film directed by James Wan. Enough said.

Very little is known about this project other than the rumor that this film will take place at a stage play theater. It sounds promising because we haven’t seen those “Phantom of the Opera” type horror films in a long time.

Do your thing James and bring the scares!

Release Date – August 14

12. Venom 2

“Venom 2” is an interesting little movie because of the whole, is Spider-Man in this universe or not? How does this movie connect to the MCU? So on a so forth. The first “Venom” is in no way a good film yet because of Tom Hardy’s performance and good marketing, it somehow managed to make $800 million.

Why this film has us so excited is because of director Andy Serkis, the introduction of Carnage and the huge potential of an R rating. Thanks “Joker!” Here’s to hoping Sony learned from its mistakes when handling the first film.

Release Date – October 2

11. Last Night in Soho

Very little is known about this movie other than it’s a psychological horror film directed by Edgar Wright.

That alone has this extremely excited. Add in Anya Taylor-Joy and Matt Smith from “Doctor Who” and you’ve got a recipe for success. We for one couldn’t be more excited for what Edgar Wright is going to bring to the table.

Releaze Date – September 25

10. Ghostbusters Afterlife

After the fan backlash and financial failure of “Ghostbusters 2016,” Sony decided to finally deliver the “Ghostbusters 3” that fans had been wanting for over 25 years. Putting the fan controversy aside, this film actually looks like a worthy 3rd “Ghostbusters” film.

It does seem like Sony is going for that “Stranger Things” vibe, especially considering they went as far to get actor Finn Wolfhard. Oh, and Paul Rudd’s in it and you can never go wrong with Paul Rudd. The first trailer has a few callbacks to the original films but outside of that, it was very vague with spoilers.

“Ghostbusters Afterlife” has us excited, if only to see the original Ghostbusters back one more time.

Release Date – July 10

9. Black Widow

How could “Black Widow” not be on the most anticipated list of 2020?

By this point this is not a spoiler. Natasha Romanoff had a controversial send-off death in “Avengers Endgame.” That hasn’t stopped people from being extremely excited for one last adventure with some people’s favorite Avenger.

It will be extremely interesting to see how this prequel spy thriller will tie into the MCU as a whole. But there’s no doubt that this film will deliver the usual Marvel goods.

Release Date – May 1

8. Halloween Kills

“Halloween 2018” accomplished the impossible.

Successfully rebooting a franchise while also serving as a legacy sequel at the same time. Undoing the damage that the Rob Zombie remakes and terrible brother/sister plot had brought to this franchise.

While many would have preferred if that film had been the end to this franchise, we are getting two more sequels in “Halloween Kills” and “Halloween Ends.”

We for one, are very excited to see how this franchise could officially come to an end and “Halloween Kills” is by far the most anticipated horror film of 2020.

Release Date – October 16

7. Top Gun: Maverick

Do you feel the need??

Another attempt at a legacy sequel, “Top Gun Maverick” feels like the one that could make a colossal amount of money. In many ways, this film feels like a metaphor for Hollywood itself. The landscape is ever-changing and many of the old ways are becoming obsolete. A metaphor for life as well.

No doubt that “Maverick” will play into many middle-aged folks nostalgia and Tom Cruise even learned to fly actual jets. That alone is worth a watch. Because we feel the need, the need for speed.

Release Date – June 26

6. Tenet

Even with the release of its first trailer, many people will still be left confused with what this movie is actually about.

But that’s the beauty of it, and this is exactly the kind of film that Christopher Nolan thrives on. Needless to say, this is a Christopher Nolan film and his name alone is why we are excited for this one.

That and this is the last film for Robert Pattinson before we see him as Batman.

Release Date – July 17

5. The Eternals

The introduction into Phase 4 of the MCU.

'Mortal Kombat Legends: Scorpion’s Revenge' Animated Film Coming First Half of 2020

Yes we have heard it before, “Black Widow” is officially the first movie of the MCU Phase 4, but “Eternals” is not a prequel, it is the next step into the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Though we have only concept art and a short glimpse at the cast and crew in outfits, this movie could be another “Guardians of the Galaxy” sized hit. Both in profit and in imagination. Bring it on we say!

Release Date – November 6

4. Wonder Woman 1984

The first “Wonder Woman” is largely seen as one of the greatest comic book films ever made. And for good reason.

The No Man’s Land scene inspired millions, the film made over 820 million at the worldwide box office and single-handedly saved the DC Cinematic Universe. “Wonder Woman 1984” looks like another winner for DC with its 80s aesthetic, comicbooky vibe and so many questions left to be answered.

It’s going to be such a treat to see how this movie unfolds!

Release Date – June 4

3. No Time To Die

The swan song for Daniel Craig as James Bond.

For many, Daniel Craig has been their generations 007. Delivering incredible films like “Skyfall” and “Casino Royale.” Although Craig’s library isn’t perfect with the likeliness of “Quantum of Solace” and “Spectre,” he has never failed to deliver a great performance.

“No Time to Die” has a chance to be the first swan song Bond film that’s actually great. The final films of Connery, Moore and Brosnan failed to deliver on anything and left them bowing out of the role with a thud.

We don’t feel like history will repeat itself for a fourth time.

Release Date – April 8

2. Dune

It’s a sci-fi epic from Denis Villeneuve. Enough said.

Villeneuve has quickly risen through the ranks in Hollywood as one of the best directors working in the business today. Some might go as far to put him over Christopher Nolan as the absolute best. Debating on that aside, there’s no debate as to the quality of his films.

“Arrival,” “Sicario,” and “Blade Runner 2049” are all heavily praised classics of modern cinema. So the fact that Villeneuve has been given the keys to the “Dune” franchise has the entire film industry shaking with anticipation.

Though nothing of this film has been released yet, the simple fact that this movie is coming out is more than deserving of its hype.

Release Date – December 18

1. Bird of Prey and The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn

An extremely easy choice for the number one spot, “Birds of Prey” looks like nothing the Comic Book Movie genre has seen before.

An R rated girl gang movie with one of the most recognizable characters of the genre? Sign us up!

This movie looks to be as crazy and ridiculous as Harley Quinn herself. Add in the characters of Huntress, Black Canary, Cassandra Cain, “John Wick” style action, neon colors, and the villainous Black Mask and you have a recipe for success.

Bottom line, “Birds of Prey” looks like a one of a kind experience and we are so there for the ride!
