Kevin Feige Teasing Hercules and Olympians Part of ‘Eternals’ Movie?

Jun 27, 2018

The Eternals movie genuinely looks like the next big cosmic team that Marvel Studios will focus on. They reportedly have screenwriters working on the film that will have Avengers member Sersi as the lead Eternal.

Interesting enough, in the Jack Kirby mythology The Eternals shared their homestead Olympia with Zeus and the Olympians. That would also include Hercules, an openly gay Marvel hero that was also an Avenger at the same time as Sersi. The Eternals themselves have direct links to Greek mythology and written stories (Icrus and Circe ect).

ScreenRant was able to speak to Kevin Feige, who seemingly teased the Greek mythology links could be directly connected to the characters.

“Well, one of the cool things about that property and what Jack Kirby did with it and what’s been done with it in recent years is it does tie into they’re called Eternals, they’ve been around for a long time. You know? There’s this notion of all of these myths and legends that we know from ancient times, were they inspired by the Eternals?

Were they Eternals? It’s a very … you know, it’s an ancient aliens kind of sci-fi trope that we think would be fun to explore someday.”

Could they end up just including the Olympians into the Eternals umbrella?

It’s possible, with Asgard gone after Ragnarok there is an opening for another planet of gods to be explored. Since they have proximity and a Greek link it’s a good bet to make.

Being a cosmic film could be a huge way to differ from Greek mythology properties like Wonder Woman and Clash of The Titans.

Kirby took inspiration from various places including alien seeder mythology from books like The Chariots of The Gods, works that have had a huge impact on the science fiction genre. Ridley Scott’s Prometheus might be biggest and most recent example of this.

The Eternals is without a release date but could be ready by 2020-2021.
