Each week I go to my comic shop and get my weekly pulls. In addition to that, I like to browse and see what other titles have come out. I try to have a game plan going into each trip to my LCS. Usually I visit Midtown Comics’ website to see what I should be picking up. For the week of February 24, 2016, I’ve made a list of my top 5 comics that I need to get! Sure I’ll have my regular pulls too, but these are some can’t miss books!
#5. Superman: The Coming of the Supermen #1
DC Comics
Written and Art by: Neal Adams
Neal Adams is pulling double duty on this 6 issue miniseries as both writer and artist. Superman should be in good hands though as Adams has handled several classic DC super heroes in the past. Darkseid, ruler of Apokolips, has begun a full scale attack on earth. Superman is completely overwhelmed, but is soon joined by three Kryptonians from the miniaturized city of Kandor, whom emerge at full size and armed with all the powers of Superman! This is enough for me to get pretty excited. Seeing several Kryptonians attempting to kick Darkseid’s hind end? I’d buy that for a dollar!

#4. Street Fighter X G.I. Joe #1

Do you really even need a reason to be excited about this title? It’s freakin’ G.I. Joe AND Street Fighter! How could this possibly be bad? Apparently M. Bison and Destro have teamed up during a secret tournament held in international waters. Of course this all sounds terribly cliched, but I honestly can not wait to see how all the various characters interact. Will the Real American Heroes be able to take down the World Warriors? I guess we’ll have to read and find out!

#3. Dark Knight III: Master Race #3

I’ve really been enjoying the DK3 story thus far. I was a little hesitant going into it because of how much Dark Knight 2 was, well, kind of not good. However, Miller and Azzarello have been crafting a fascinating story and Kubert’s artwork has been fantastic. As much as I wish Miller was also doing the art, I truly appreciate how much work Kubert is putting in to give it that classic Dark Knight feel. This week features the third of eight issues. We’re almost half way there and so much action is left to be seen!
#2. Faith #2

Faith was a comic I really didn’t know if I was going to enjoy. Thankfully I put hesitations aside and grabbed issue one. I have been eagerly waiting for the second part of this four part mini series and pray to all the great comic gods that Valiant makes this a monthly title. Faith is an incredibly fun book to read. With so many superhero titles having brooding heroes and major consequences, it was a pleasant change to read about a superhero that just likes to have fun. On top of that, Faith loves being a nerd and it was clearly shown in the first issue with her Galiffreyan shower curtain or how she wishes she had the dual identity like Superman. The first issue also ended with a literal explosive cliffhanger, so I can hardly wait to see what Faith does next. If this series does only run for the four issues, I’ll be thankful that I got to enjoy the fantastic works of Houser, Portela, and Sauvage and can only hope that Faith will get some future adventures.

#1. Ghostbusters International #2

It was a tough choice to make for the #1 spot this week. I enjoyed both first issues of Faith and Ghostbusters International, but my boys in the Big Apple just won out. This title has rekindled my love of the Ghostbusters franchise. Burnham has an amazing way of truly bringing the characters to life. All of them exude the same characteristics portrayed by Murray, Aykroyd, Hudson, and Ramis. The first issue had them meeting up with a wealthy benefactor that wanted to buy out the Ghostbusters, and I’m assuming, use them globally. Looks like their first stop might even be Venice! How does one say, “I ain’t afraid of no ghosts.” in Italian? I guess that’s not important at the moment. If indeed the team does get bought out, what are the implications? Will Janine have to hire even more Ghostbusters? Will there be branches on all the continents? Will it split the four friends apart!? These are things I need to know! I’m hoping that they can find a way to make this title similar to Batman Incorporated, where we’ll get several teams around the world adding even more depth to a fantastic and flourishing universe.
