Maleficent (Disney)
Directed by: Robert Stromberg
For those of you who are unaware Maleficent is the untold story of the villain from Sleeping Beauty. Once she was a friendly and loving fairy until an act of betrayal caused her to become the villain we know from the timeless tale that Walt Disney brought to life.
Now the views and opinions expressed are mine and only mine. Geeks With Wives are not held responsible. I only say this because I know how faithful you Disney fanatics are. Anyone wishing to throw your Mickey ears at me feel welcome to. Now with that being said I did not like this movie. The screenplay writer (Linda Woolverton) was trying to create a world similar to J.R.R Tolkien or maybe George R.R.Martin but created something more akin to a Sid and Marty Croft story line in Land of the Lost. With annoying creatures and all. Think of Jar Jar Binks and maybe some Sleestak walking around talking to irritating fairies that came straight out of someone’s bad acid trip. Now throw in some acting that would make an ABC after school special look like an Emmy winner and this movie becomes hard to watch.
Yes, Angelina Joile is great as Maleficent. To me she was the glue that held this together. Her evil look and laugh deserve the one and only credit I will give to this film. Once again this is strictly my opinion as everyone else seemed to jump on Maleficent’s wings and go for a ride. This is a definetly a great movie to take your kids to as they will enjoy the childish fantasy while you can catch up on some sleep.
My recommendation; save your money go buy Sleeping Beauty on Blu-Ray or wait for this to hit the three dollar theater. OK you can throw your Mickey ears at me on the count of three two one GO!
