Variety reports that we have yet another addition the rather large cast of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad. They have learned that Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje (Thor: The Dark World, Lost, G.I. Joe, Game of Thrones, Killer Elite, The Mummy Returns, Bourne Identity) has joined the cast as Batman rogue Killer Croc.
A fan-favorite since the animated series there are actually two versions of the character, one being the more familiar lizard-like villain and the second had a human appearance which just happened to be black which might explain Adewale’s casting.
I’m uncertain which version they could be going for, but with King Shark rumored to be involved in the film anything is really possible. The human-looking version was a partner of sorts with The Joker so that could come into play here. It could be cool to see Croc become Joker’s muscle.
You might remember that Adewale had been trying to get Marvel Studios to consider him for Black Panther and Blade movies, that doesn’t seem to be happening anytime soon and it’s smart on his part to side with DC.
Warner Bros. is smart adding all these rogues into one film, which could minimize the need to explain them later-on in the cinematic universe.
The film is about to begin production in the next couple of days/weeks with a release date set for August 2016.
