Adonis Might Fight Ivan Drago’s Son In ‘Creed 2’; Possibly Shooting In 2018
Sly Stallone might be entering a new phase of his career potentially taking another stab at the comic book film franchise, with possibly a large role in James Gunn’s Guardians of The Galaxy 3. He’s since abandoned his action roles in Rambo and Expendables sequels to focus on Creed 2.
Deadline has a bit of an expose on Sly which reveals he won’t be involved in the Rambo reboot either, as he’s been focusing on getting Creed 2 ready for a possible production 2018 shoot.
Creed earned him Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, and it sounds like they’re attempting to make the sequel a little more personal this time and might deserve Oscar love again. There now chatter that Adonis (Michael B. Jordan) could be facing the son of Russian boxer Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), Ivan was the one who killed his father Apollo in the ring. So, there’s a revenge factor that could make the rival here a lot more memorable than the forgettable British champ in the last film. Giving them both motivation to up the intensity of the training and possibly an even more brutal match.
Stallone has been fully focused on the Creed sequel for MGM. He is writing the script and has hinted online that the plot might pit Michael B. Jordan’s Adonis character against the son of Drago, the Russian heavyweight (played by Dolph Lundgren) who killed Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) in the ring during 1985’s Rocky IV. The hope is to get that film into production next year.
Creed 2’s release date is unknown but we have to assume that they’d want to place it during awards season. There’s no word if we’ll be seeing the return of director Ryan Coogler.
A spec-script focused on Ivan Drago has been making the rounds but it’s very unlikely that would be the material used for this film.
