An R-Rated Director’s Cut Of ‘Batman v Superman’ On The Way?

Feb 24, 2016

It’s starting to sound like we might be getting an even darker cut of Batman v Superman down the road.

A Tweet from Stitch Kingdom, suggests that an “Ultimate Edition” of the film will be released on Blu-Ray, which will include Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of the film. The most notable difference between the version shown in theatres and this one will be that the director’s cut is rumored to be R-rated.

This isn’t unheard of for Warner Bros. as the extended cut for The Hobbit: Battle of The Five Armies, was indeed an R-rated version of that film.

The Wolverine was also shot as an R-rated film, then released as PG-13 version with the uncut version released on home video.

Considering the source material is based on the Frank Miller comics it would be expected to have a slightly darker edge to previous films, but most of the violence not suitable for younger audiences was assumed to get cutdown greatly. I’m curious to see how much this varies and where the added violence takes place.

My own opinion, these violent scenes might likely pertain to Jason Todd (the second Robin murdered at the hands of The Joker), or this more brutal version of Batman kicking the living-shit or torturing criminals.

If this turns out to be true, I wouldn’t be terribly shocked if they are planning to do the same for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad.
