Another Unicorn? New Acer Nitro XZ2 Series Gaming Monitors Announced

Jul 15, 2020

A few months ago I reviewed an Acer monitor that blew me away (to the point where I bought one). Since that time, I’ve tested other less impressive monitors while patiently waiting for the next batch to be announced that demonstrates Acer is onto something. This could be that time. Today, Acer America announced the new Nitro XZ2 Series monitors offering gamers “smooth and immersive gameplay” – as they say. The 31.5″ Nitro XZ322QU and 27″ Nitro XZ272 include FreeSync, VESA Certified DisplayHDR 400 and up to a fast 1ms response time with prices starting at $199. These monitors support up to 165Hz and 144Hz refresh rates, respectively.

According to Acer: “Our newest Nitro series monitors combine speed, FreeSync and curved panels to offer fun and exciting gaming at a great value,” said Ronald Lau, Acer America director – stationary computing. “The fast performance and affordable pricing make the Nitro series ideal for a wide range of gamers, particularly for first-person shooter and racing games where fluid visuals are key.”

So, are these unicorns like the 24″ VG24Y? What made that monitor unique is it’s IPS/144Hz panel. These new monitors are VA panels, unfortunately. But Acer have been working with VA panels for a very long time. Perhaps these shall be amazing! The Acer Nitro XZ2 Series monitors come with dual 3W speakers and are available now at leading retailers with manufacturer’s suggested retail prices starting at $449 for the Nitro XZ322QU, $259 for the Nitro XZ272 and $199 for the Acer Nitro XZ242Q.
