Are We Getting More Mutants Beyond Cable and Domino In ‘Deadpool 2’?

Jan 12, 2017

Deadpool was such a shot-in-the-arm for Fox’s X-Men franchise and we’re extremely excited to see Deadpool 2 begin production (said to begin shooting this May in Vancouver).

Screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick sat down with Deadline one of their quotes suggested to us that the film’s character lineup might be even bigger than we had expected.

“Yeah, it’ll be a solo movie. It’ll be populated with a lot of characters, but it is still Deadpool’s movie, this next one. We’re pushing forward very hard. I think by every account we will shoot it this year, and we’re on our multiple draft now. It’s taken different twists and turns, but it’s really coalescing, and we’re very, very excited. We’re a little nervous, because now we feel like we have to live up to the first movie, but at the same time, we have to have faith, and we have an extreme passion still, and as long as we have passion still, and it’s not a mercenary, venal play, which we don’t think this is, I think we’ll be in good shape.”

This could just mean that the two additions of Cable and Domino are it along with returning cast members and a handful of unnamed villains. However, with the film potentially setting up X-Force focused Deadpool 3 we could potentially have even more mutants interacting with Deadpool than we previously thought.

Ryan had previously teased a possible future team-up with Olivia Munn’s underused Psylocke on Instagram and Deadpool director Tim Miller had suggested X-23 (currently played by Dafne Keen in Logan) would make a great addition as well.

“But if I was to stay inside the Fox family, I would like to see him fight X-23, the female Wolverine. The female clone of Wolverine. It would be totally messy, but just to have it be a girl against – you know, she’s young, in the comics she’s about 16 or so – but to see a young girl kicking the shit out of him would be pretty fucking awesome.”

The two female characters just happen to be fellow members of the X-Force team. Planting the seeds for X-Force isn’t such a terrible idea but at this point, we don’t know if that is their intention.

I’m sure when Deadpool 2 casting actually starts to ramp up we’ll have a better idea if that’s the case or just pure speculation.
