As We Reported ‘Gambit’ Is Still Alive and Courting Directors – Simon Kinberg Confirms

May 4, 2018

Back in February, despite losing another director, we reported that Gambit was still moving forward with a summer shoot and in late March that it would begin filming on June 19th in New Orleans. The first concrete sign the X-Men spinoff was still kicking and going to move ahead, while plenty of outlets were calling it a dead project. We suggested in the piece that Fox was already meeting with directors.

This would be somewhat backed up by THR in February stating a script was being completed for March.

Omega Underground recently learned it’s wrap date will be September 29th.

Yesterday, franchise producer and Dark Phoenix director Simon Kinberg confirmed to EntertainmentWeekly that Gambit is still moving and they’ve been meeting with directors.

We have a really great script for that, and we’ve met with a bunch of directors in the last couple of weeks.”

Also, reaffirming Channing Tatum is still very much in the role.

Fox had set the new release date for June 7th, 2019.
