Asa Butterfield and Other Young Actors On Marvel’s ‘Spider-Man’ Shortlist

Apr 23, 2015

The Wrap has dropped a pretty big scoop today, with news of the five actors in the running to become Marvel’s new Spider-Man. The shortlist includes Asa Butterfield, who teased interest earlier in the year, along with mostly unknowns like Nat Wolff, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalamet and Liam James.

Like we pointed out months back, Butterfield has worked with people like Martin Scorsese and now with Tim Burton for Miss Peregrine. He’s likely able to hand a role of his size without going nuts, or crumbling under the pressure that some of these newcomers might have issues with. Leading large films like Hugo and Ender’s Game has sort of set him up to tackle a huge blockbuster part, and we’ve seen Marvel consider the more known names with recent castings.

Marvel’s Spider-Man is set for release in July 2017 with an expected role and first appearance in Captain America: Civil War which comes out next May.
