The issue starts with Poison Ivy attacking Metropolis, with Batman and Superman stopping her. Unknown to them, she was a distraction, and the actual attack came from Metello. With Superman out of control, the unlikely Doom Patrol shows up and helps calm the rampaging Man of Steel. Can Batman and the Doom Patrol save Superman and figure out who is behind it, or is this the beginning of the end of the heroes?

As one of the most prolific writers, Waid can craft a story that gives fans everything they can imagine. With the addition of Doom Patrol, he raises the stakes for how deadly this mysterious threat truly is. Thanks to Waids’ vast knowledge of DC characters, the issue hits perfectly and incorporates them seamlessly into the story.

With the story including so many unique characters, only an artist like Mora can handle the task. Each page is structured perfectly between characters and actions that very little is wasted. With the number of villains and heroes on display in the issue, Mora naturally blends them into the story and gives them their spotlight.

Final Thoughts on Batman/Superman: World’s Finest

Batman/Superman: World’s Finest is a great first issue. Waid and Mora help set the stage for the upcoming DCU event while still including underappreciated and used characters. The only downside to the issue is that it is another Batman/Superman story and will need to fight for attention amongst their other ongoing series and titles.
