Ben Affleck Set To Return for ‘Flashpoint’; May Be Recast in Matt Reeve’s ‘The Batman’

Dec 8, 2017

Today, a giant report from Variety dropped regarding the future of DC Films after the miserably returns Justice League brought the company. According to the report DC Films co-head, Jon Berg will be stepping down from his post to help produce films for Warner Brothers subsidiary New Line Cinema. With DC CCO Geoff Johns moving from a more hands-on role to just an advisor on future DC Films.

It was also revealed the higher-ups wanted to fire director Zack Snyder after Batman v Superman was destroyed by critics but kept him around for Justice League. However, with Justice League underperforming; as well as personal issues that have befallen the Snyder family. WB is looking to remove Snyder altogether. He will still receive producing credits for Wonder Woman 2 as well as next year’s Aquaman. He will not be directing any future DC movies for the company anytime soon, but that is not set in stone.

Now, the report goes on to point out that Ben Affleck (who has long been rumored to be leaving the DCEU as Batman) is expected to return for Flashpoint alongside Ezra Miller as Barry Allen. It’s unknown how large this role will be considering most of Flashpoint takes place in an alternate timeline where Bruce died that fateful night and Thomas Wayne took up the mantle of a much darker Batman. With Martha Wayne losing her mind and becoming a version of The Joker.

However, they do mention that director Matt Reeve’s is looking to recast Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne in his upcoming Batman solo film. Now, while many may believe that this Batman film will just be an “Elseworld” film like Todd Phillips Joker film without Jared Leto. We at Omega Underground have been told that that is not the case. Matt Reeve’s Batman will indeed be canon alongside Justice League. So how will they recast Batman? Flashpoint. Flashpoint may be used as a “Days of Future Past” retcon tool to integrate a new Bruce Wayne into the DC Extended Universe moving forward.

Justice League is in theaters now
