Ben Wheatley In Talks To Direct A Remake Of Hitchcock’s ‘Rebecca’

Feb 18, 2018

Omega Underground has learned that British filmmaker Ben Wheatley (Free Fire, A Field In England) is in talks with DreamWorks and Working Title to direct a remake of Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Rebecca.

The film based on the 1938 novel by Daphne du Maurier, follows a woman who marries a widower, but as his servants become more hostile, the newlywed grows more fearful, until she eventually learns the secret of what really happened to his first wife.

Wheatley is known for his love for the macabre so it seems like a good fit.

Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) and Jane Goldman (The Woman In Black) had previously wrote their own drafts for the studio. We suspect Ben, an accomplished screenwriter himself might also put his hands to the script as well.

Wheatley has a few projects cooking at the moment one being a live-action adaption of Frank Miller’s graphic novel Hard Boiled in the works with Tom Hiddleston attached to star. We’re not certain when this could move forward but it’s promising to hear Ben still wants to tackle thrillers.
