A new rumor is circling about the potential release date for the next solo installment in Fox’s Predator franchise.
Scified is claiming that the studio is looking at releasing Shane Black’s The Predator on June 12th, 2017. The only problem is that date is a Tuesday, and we don’t see R-rated action movies released that early in the week. Fox’s R-rated Kingsman 2 is also slatted for that weekend, making this date even more suspicious.
In fairness, the date could actually be June 9th. Fox had already been eyeing that spot for another science-fiction property. The date was originally slated for Fox’s Fantastic Four sequel, which was then placed on-hold after the first film’s horrible reception.
Paramount’s PG-13 World War Z is slotted for that date as well, but recently lost it’s director and could lead to another release date shuffle. The other big films expected to land on June 9th include Paramount’s Mummy reboot starring Tom Cruise and The Divergent Series: Ascendant. It’s possible these dates could also eventually shift as neither have started even shooting.
Fox has taken old Fantastic Four 2 dates and repurposed them before, as War For The Planet of The Apes took their the original announced July 14th spot for the Fantastic Four sequel.
Another more realistic possibility is June 2nd, as the only competition on that date is Sony’s Barbie movie and WB’s Will Farrell/Amy Poehler comedy The House.
We know that the film is indeed on the horizon and a 2017 release date sounds about right if Black starts shooting the film by the summer. Treat this as pure rumor at this point, due to the odd date they’ve given.
