Projections, tracking, and estimates have been all over the place concerning Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther. The original tacking tried to place the opening weekend around $100 million and at almost every turn the film has outpaced industry predictions. Even the three-day and four-day estimates were off.
It’s now looking like the film has earned $201.8 million during the regular weekend, making it the fifth largest domestic opening placing it ahead of Avengers: Age of Ultron. A huge undertaking to overshadow an Avengers installment out of the gate.
It had been estimated to earn around $235 million for the four-day weekend, but now seems like will more in the realm of $242 million (another estimate that was off by almost $10 million) or more. The new four-day earnings places the solo debut ahead of The Last Jedi and Jurassic World, suggesting the film could be on it’s way to the billion-dollar club.
