Omega Underground has been keeping an eye out for any interesting production/casting news that might be interesting to genre film fans.
We recently uncovered two addition tapes for Blumhouse Pictures’ Halloween reboot and it’s working title Night Blade. That film is expected to shoot this fall in Lousiana (likely New Orleans) with David Gordon Green set to direct and John Carpenter involved as a producer.
Now, we’ve discovered some new production info for Blumhouse’s next Purge installment. Tentatively entitled The Purge: Island and directed by Burning Sands’ Gerard McMurray (announced last month).
The title would suggest an Escape From New York type plot, although, nothing has been confirmed.
A reliable source is listing the production dates for the filming of the fourth installment which will shoot in Buffalo, New York.
It’s working title we’ve discovered is expected to be Island Experiment with a production start of September 25th and will wrap around November 8th.
As far as we know Frank Grillo won’t be returning. He’s previously suggested he wouldn’t be involved with the next installment.
“If DeMonaco was still involved and they came up with a great idea, then I think I would do [another Purge movie]. Otherwise, I think I’m done.”
“I’m so appreciative and grateful to have been a part of something that big. I’m appreciative of The Purge. It’s become a part of the lexicon and the zeitgeist knows what it is, so that’s been fun. But, it’s time to move on. Don’t stay at the party too long, or you get knocked through the ropes.”
Purge 4 is set to be released by distributor Universal Pictures on July 4th, 2018.
