BOND 25: Screenwriters Neal Purvis and Robert Wade Reportedly Returning; Craig’s Status Unknown

Mar 10, 2017

Finally, we have some sort of update concerning Eon/MGM’s untitled Bond 25. Recent reports suggested the producers were eyeing a potential location in Croatia where Star Wars: The Last Jedi had shot some sequences. A usual cue that development on a Bond script is on the way.

Now we have something concrete about the film’s script development as the Daily Mail’s Baz Bamigboye tweeted out a brief update reporting that franchise script and story writers Neal Purvis and Robert Wade will indeed be returning for the 25th installment.

However, Daniel Craig’s participation is still extremely murky as ever. We’ve consistently heard talk about both studios looking towards new actors and Baz being one of the more plugged-in UK reporters covering Bond his comment shouldn’t be entirely reassuring for Daniel Craig fans expecting his return.

There’s an expectation that once an outline is put together the next step is hiring a new director.

The writers have recently been working alongside Drive’s Nicolas Winding Refn on their own spy project The Avenging Silence, I’m extremely curious if Bond producers would actually seek out Refn who has dipped his toes into the blockbuster arena being in the mix for Logan’s Run and Equalizer reboots.

Then again, Refn revealed to The Telegraph that he was approached for Spectre and doesn’t seem convinced about franchise work.

Before Sam Mendes agreed to direct the most recent Bond film, Spectre, Refn was one of a few filmmakers approached by Eon Productions to take the reins: he doesn’t elaborate but says he’s now certain franchise work is not for him. “I just know this way I can do whatever I want, and that outweighs any money anyone can give me.”

There have been rumblings that the film is expected to begin shooting and will be released in 2018.
