Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl, Run All Night) has been cast in James Mangold’s Wolverine 3 according to Deadline.
The Narcos star is said to be playing the villain opposite Hugh Jackman‘s Wolverine and Patrick Stewart‘s Xavier, but isn’t being named as this time. Other outlets state the actor is still in early talks for the unnamed role.
Holbrook will play a relentless, calculating and intense head of security for a global enterprise who is set against Jackman’s clawed Wolverine/Logan hero.
We’ve heard chatter that Liev Schrieber could be reprising his role as Sabretooth in the film as well, but nothing has been confirmed.
This could mean Boyd might be playing someone like Russian serial killer turned supervillain Omega Red. A villain we’ve been championing for years. Fingers crossed. Who just happens to be one of the last unused rogues from Wolverine’s comic book history.
Another failed attempted a super-soldier program he uses tentacles to drain the life-force from his victims to keep himself alive, having a connection to Logan’s Cold-War era military operations.
Another possibility based on the character description could be Strikeforce X.
Logan has tracked down Blackguard, the private military contractor that took hold of the Weapon X files, but he may regret this success when he encounters the deadly Strikeforce X!
Strikeforce X is a team of agents that used humans as test subjects and were given animal-like senses, enhanced strength and reflexes (probably drug-induced), an artificially engineered healing factor (techno-organic), nanites in their blood to help regrow tissue, adamantium-laced skeletons, claw energy blades, and maybe some bionic implants as well.
It’s wouldn’t be terribly shocking to see Omega Red and Strikeforce X paired together, as Omega has been seen as hired-gun for the yakuza in the comics. The Weapon X files could be extremely dangerous if in the hands of private military corporation like The Blackguard, providing enhanced soldiers to really evil people something teased in Deadpool.
Michael Green (Blade Runner 2, Alien: Covenant) recently did rewrites on the script, which is said to include elements of Old Man Logan leading to it’s confirmed R-rating.
However, it’s unknown how much of the original comic will be incorporated into the film.
Production is reportedly taking place soon in both New Orleans and New Mexico.
It’s release date has been officially slated for March 3rd, 2017.
