With the success of anthology series that delve into the world of science fiction like Netflix’s Black Mirror, it was only a matter of time before other streaming services would follow suit.
While I wait for another reboot of Rod Serling’s The Twilight Zone or another classic series like The Outer Limits, Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston has decided to bring a new anthology series to Amazon and has enlisted some heavyweight help. The new series that Cranston and his company Moon Shot Entertainment will produce is called “Electric Dreams“. It will be a ten episode anthology series that will feature the works of science fiction legend Philip K. Dick. Cranston will executive produce the series as well as appear in at least one episode.
Also taking on this undertaking is someone not unfamiliar to the world of science fiction; Battlestar Galactica showrunner Ronald D. Moore. Moore will serve as another executive producer on the series. Moore is familiar to many fans of genre television as the executive producer of series like Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, Star Trek: Voyager, Roswell, and his current series Outlander. He and Cranston have assembled and impressive group of writers for the first season of Electric Dreams including Dee Rees (Mudbound), David Farr (The Night Manager), Travis Beacham (Pacific Rim) and Matthew Graham (Life on Mars).
Phillip K. Dick is the author of classic sci-fi stories like Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep?, A Scanner Darkly and current Amazon series The Man in the High Castle. His works have been adapted for both film and television including Total Recall (We Can Remember it For You Wholesale), The Adjustment Bureau (Adjustment Team), Minority Report (The Minority Report) and Blade Runner (Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep).
No word on a premiere date as “Electric Dreams” was originally sold to the UK’s Channel 4 first, but I will keep you informed.
