Bryan Singer Admits Pitching X-23; Simon Kinberg Writing ‘X-Force’ Outline?

May 16, 2016

Bryan Singer is about to leave the X-Men life for a couple of years while he tackles 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea for Fox, but has seemingly helped pitch ideas for upcoming films for the mutant franchise.

While speaking with Fandango Singer was asked if he had considered replacing Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine with female clone X-23 instead of recasting, both Bryan and Simon Kinberg have mentioned a desire not to replace him with another actor, but potentially retire the character completely.

“I have discussed that with the studio,” Singer reveals. “I actually initially pitched the X-Force and the female.”

His response might further fuel the rumor she’ll be first introduced in James Mangold’s Wolverine 3 and to be setup as apart of the X-Force lineup.

Speaking of X-Force, Singer also confirmed that the film is still only in early development stages with Simon Kinberg, possibly revealing producer and screenwriter Simon is currently writing the outline himself before handing it off to someone else.

“Simon [Kinberg] is in the earliest script stage, so that’s kind of where that stands, and we’ll see how it evolves.”

This makes sense as Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick had campaigned for the screenwriter gig. The duo are currently writing Deadpool 2 and then would likely move onto X-Force. Ryan Reynolds is already been quoted as stating it’s a priority for him, so we do expect that production could take place quickly after Deadpool 2 wrapping-up.

The X-Force film is also shaping-up to be another R-rated outing.

X-23 is also the perfect character to take over for Wolverine as well, as you don’t really need to recast Logan when you have Laura Kinney and Daken. She’d also make an excellent addition to X-Force alongside Deadpool, Cable and possibly Domino. Laura could also eventually get her own solo films, as Fox is seemingly the only superhero studio to give fans a female centric film.
