‘Captain Marvel’ Hires ‘Star Trek Beyond’ and ‘Blade’ Costume Designer

Oct 20, 2017

We’re still waiting to hear more casting announcements for the Captain Marvel film (aka Warbird) outside of Brie Larson and Samuel L. Jackson (Omega first reported Jackson would appear in the film before Kevin Feige confirmed this at Comic-Con).

Omega Underground has been covering some crew hirings in the meantime on the film which includes production designer Andy Nicholson (Gravity, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Assassin’s Creed) and visual effects supervisor Christopher Townsend (Guardians of The Galaxy Vol. 2, Avengers: Age of Ultron), the latter pictured above with director James Gunn on the set of Guardians 2.

Another big sci-fi crew hire is costume designer Sanja Milkovic Hays, her credits include Star Trek Beyond, Blade, and the entire Fast & Furious franchise. Sanja’s experience having costumed the Federation and multiple aliens in Beyond should help her craft the costumes for 90s SHIELDSkrulls, and Kree in the film, along with possible other aliens Carol Danvers might encounter in the film.

Maybe, we’ll finally see some traditional SHIELD costumes in the 90’s set film? Marvel Studios concept artist Andy Park designed some excellent comic book accurate SHIELD costume designs for The Avengers, but Joss Whedon decided on some seriously cheap/generic looking uniforms instead (along with choosing the worst Captain America costume in the MCU). Park was the artist behind the first reveal of concept artwork of Larson as Captain Marvel, so there’s a good chance he’s taking the lead on the film.

Below is some of that excellent artwork we hope get’s recycled for Captain Marvel.

Production is expected to begin in early 2018 in Los Angeles, California (moving from Atlanta) with a release date of March 8th, 2019.
