Recently, it was revealed by Spider-Man: Homecoming producer Amy Pascal that the door was open for Venom along with Silver and Black to become part of Homecoming’s Spider-Man universe. A proxy to the Marvel Cinematic Universe that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker inhabits. Amy even suggested Parker could be involved with the spinoffs (possibly a cameo).
Well, the Hollywood Reporter now has word concerning Venom‘s villain which will be Cletus Kassidy aka Carnage. The multiple murderer bonds with the spawn of Venom and becomes known as the symbiote villain Carnage. There has been an assumption he would make his debut here and this could more than likely support Collider’s claim the film is aiming for an R-rating.
Also, that some form of a script is completed if production is moving ahead this quickly.
Carnage is not the type of villain you could place into a PG-13 film as he’s basically the Spider-Man version of Hannibal Lector. We don’t have an idea of who could be playing the character. However, Lin Manuel-Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns) had voiced a desire to play the character and his theatrical background could help with nailing down such an eccentric villain.
Tom Hardy is on board to star was the anti-hero, Eddie Brock. It remains to be seen how Sony will be handling Venom’s origin considering that cosmic element of the story.
Zombieland’s Ruben Fleischer is set to direct the spinoff.
Omega Underground has previously reported that Venom will begin production September 1st with shooting locations that include Atlanta and New York City. Venom has the release date of October 5th, 2018.
