Casting call confirms Superman Appearance On CBS ‘Supergirl’ Series

Feb 25, 2015

Though many of us suspected that Kara Zor-El’s famous cousin would show up on the upcoming CBS Supergirl series, it’s now been made official. Or, more official, thanks to a recently-released casting call.

Project Casting released the casting call, and is looking for a “body double for a DC Comic Superhero,” who must be 5’11 or taller with a square jaw and “ripped physique.” That could easily mean just about any character from the DC Comics pantheon, but all applicants are asked to use the word “Superman” as the subject line, confirming that the search is on for the Man of Steel.

Based on this, it sounds like Superman won’t have a large part to play in the Supergirl series, and might not speak at all. Perhaps he’ll just show up in the background via TV footage or newspaper headlines; that would efficiently show that the Last Son of Krypton does in fact exist in this world, while allowing Supergirl to remain the focus of her series.

Supergirl has a series commitment from CBS, and is expected to air this fall. The show stars Melissa Benoist (Glee) as Kara Zor-El/Supergirl, Mehcad Brooks (True Blood) as Jimmy Olsen, Laura Benanti (Nashville) as Alura Zor-El and Calista Flockhart (Ally McBeal, Brothers & Sisters) as Cat Grant.
