Channing Tatum Might End Up With New ‘Van Helsing’ Role

Jul 21, 2017

Despite the lousy critical response for the first entry in Universal’s Monsters Universe with The Mummy, it seems it’s full steam ahead with their other projects like Bride of Frankenstein and The Invisible Man. A new Van Helsing movie is also in the works and TheHollywoodReporter is suggesting the studio is aiming to cast actor Channing Tatum (The Hateful Eight, Kingsman: The Golden Circle) in the lead role. Although, it sounds like it’s only early talk.

Convinced Tom Cruise saved Mummy from being a bigger flop, the studio is betting on names, prepping an offer to Angelina Jolie for Bride of Frankenstein (slated for release on Feb. 14, 2019) and polishing the script for Van Helsing, aimed for Channing Tatum. Johnny Depp is attached to star in The Invisible Man.

It’s an interesting casting choice since previous incarnations of the character prior to Hugh Jackman were more mature actors that included Peter Crushing (Star Wars) and Anthony Hopkins (Silence Of The Lambs).

Tatum during San Diego Comic-Con reaffirmed Fox’s plan to bring his solo Gambit film to theaters, as stated by producer Simon Kinberg could be shooting sometime in 2018. There aren’t really known plans when Universal expects to begin shooting Helsing.
