When a big screen adaptation of the classic 70’s police series “CHiPs” was announced there was not much hype about it. It was scheduled to be released August 11th, but based on the strength of the trailer and other factors, Warner Brothers has decided to move the film up.

CHiPs will now be released March 24, 2017. The series was originally about the lives of officers of the California Highway Patrol. The movie is an “R” comedy about a FBI agent Frank “Ponch” Poncharello going undercover as a highway patrol motorcycle officer in order to take down dirty cops who are backing a car theft ring. His partner at the CHP is Jon Baker, a former X-Games motocross racer who joins the force because the only thing he knows how to do is ride motorcycles. The trailer has some funny moments in it and the humor looks like it will definitely earn its “R” rating. Check it out.

The film stars Michael Pena (Ant-Man) as Ponch. Dax Shepard (Parenthood) as Jon Baker. Shepard also wrote and directed the film. Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil) is signed on to play the villain. Adam Brody, Maya Rudolph and Shepard’s real-life wife Kristen Bell round out the cast. The movie seems to be taking its cues from recent big screen buddy cop movies like The Other Guys and the Jump Street movies in its approach. It’ll be up to audiences to decide if the approach works.
