Sep 5, 2017

In a bit of shocking news StarWars.com announced today that Jurassic World director Colin Trevorrow has dropped out of directing Star Wars: Episode 9. There had been speculation over the summer that he might be removed from the project after his recent film The Book of Henry failed at the box office. The studio added in a statement:

“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways onĀ Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ. We wish Colin the best and will be sharing more information about the film soon,”

This adds yet another director who has left a Star Wars project over creative differences. Others included Josh Trank’s Boba Fett movie as well as 21 Jump Street directors Chris Miller & Phil Lord asked to leave Han Solo mid-production. Now the hunt is on for a replacement…

Star Wars 9 is expected to hit May 2019 with production starting this January
