CONFIRMED: ‘Black Panther’s Ruth E. Carter Tackling ‘Silver and Black’ Costumes Next

Feb 23, 2018

In early December, Omega Underground reported that talented Black Panther costume designer Ruth E. Carter (Serenity, Selma) would be continuing to work on superhero films and was hired for Gina Prince-Bythewood‘s (Cloak and Dagger, The Secret Life of Bees) Silver and Black, a Spider-Man spinoff that would focus on female Marvel characters Black Cat and Silver Sable.

The two previously worked together on Love and Basketball.

We don’t often talk about the costuming of a superhero film (outside of super-suits) like we have with Black Panther and that’s thanks to Carter’s extensive and stunning work to create the world of Wakanda. So seeing her work in another superhero project is terribly exciting to us.

Now, we have Ruth herself is confirming our reporting that she is indeed working on Silver and Black, during an interview with DiscussingFilm. Revealing that her work is hold during script rewrites.

Below is the full interview with Ruth. (Mentions Silver and Black at the 13:50 mark)

I’ll be anticipating what Ruth could bring to the Spider-Man universe.

Spoilery plot rumblings from our friends at SplashReport and ThatHashtagShow revealed multiple Spidey rogues could be in the film which might include an introduction to fan-favorite Kraven The Hunter. A Russian trophy hunter that could make a great villain in multiple films.

Interesting enough, director Ryan Coogler mentioned in recent interviews during development he wanted to use Kraven in Black Panther but wasn’t allowed to use him.

Although, we’re unsure if the film’s plot will look exactly as reported last year due to the last two rounds of rewrites on the script. The latest from Lindsey Beer (Godzilla vs Kong, Choas Walking, Masters of The Universe) and Geneva Robertson-Dworet (Captain Marvel, Gotham City Sirens). But it does seem that it’ll still be set in South America’s Triple Frontier as the film’s working title is Tri-Border, a nod to that dangerous locale.

We previously reported filming will take place in Atlanta and Mexico, but it remains to be seen if shooting begins next month as planned due to the rewrites.

Silver and Black is still set for release on February 8th, 2019.
