We’ve been trying our best to keep fans up to date on all the latest news concerning the three X-Men films 20th Century Fox is about to put into production this summer.
Finally, we have a definitive main location for where Josh Boone’s X-Men: The New Mutants will be shooting. Boston will indeed be the film’s main location, not just for a couple scenes as we first pointed out (confirmed by the Boston Globe) thanks to Josh Boone’s social media postings while scouting locations in the city.
Omega Underground has uncovered a production listing on the state’s film commission website for “Growing Pains”, the working production title for New Mutants. It’s under the in-production section, but it’s not expected to see cameras start rolling until next month.
We’ve been keeping tabs on the site and this is the first time the project has appeared.
This cements not only that the film is indeed shooting the area, with Josh Boone primarily hanging out in Boston as the film’s prep is underway suggested that Boston will be the main headquarters, not Montreal as we previously suspected (a mix up with X-Men: Dark Phoenix). The new listing confirms this alongside film industry Montreal union site only lists Teen Spirit (Dark Phoenix) shooting in the city over the summer.
One of the locations scouted revealed by Boston Globe previously included Medfield State Hospital, where they shot Shutter Island. This might have some sort of connection to the animatic that was making the rounds last year, it could also be doubling the X-Mansion.
It’s expected that cameras will start rolling on June 4th, so we should hear more names joining confirmed actresses Anya Taylor-Joy (Majik) and Maisie Williams (Wolfsbane) very soon.
Roles expected to be filled include Sunspot, Cannonball, Mirage, and Warlock.
Stay tuned to Omega Underground for future X-Men updates.
New Mutants will be released on April 13th, 2018.
