On Saturday, we reported that Samuel L. Jackson would be returning to the role of Nick Fury for Captain Marvel via production sources.
Now, Deadline confirms our reporting that Jackson will have sort of role in the film. Similar to our follow-up written report they are being vague concerning the size of his role, but will indeed be featured in some sort of capacity.
Rumors began popping up on the fanboy sites over the Independence Day holiday that Samuel L. Jackson was reprising his role as Avengers architect and recruiter Nick Fury in Disney/Marvel’s Captain Marvel. Where there’s smoke, there’s fire, and we hear it’s true that Jackson will be making an appearance in the movie.
This is great news as we’ve been hoping to see Fury make a larger return to the MCU, something on par with his part in Captain America: The Winter Soldier would be our preference.
Details on the film haven’t been made official but concept art suggests that Carol Danvers will come to odds with the Kree Empire. How Nick Fury fits into this story hasn’t been revealed while it’s possible he could create an Earth defense force like S.W.O.R.D. to combat cosmic threats post-Infinity War starting with Carol. We expect that there will be some details revealed at San Deigo Comic-Con, possibly the artwork shared to press.
Production starts this January until May in Atlanta and its release date is set for March 8th, 2019.
