The Conjuring has been a horror revelation for James Wan and New Line Cinema, as the sequel The Conjuring 2 has impressed both critics and moviegoers alike.
Hollywood Reporter has learned that Conjuring 2 will also have it’s own spin-off with a film focused on the demon nun titled The Nun. The film will have script from Conjuring 2 co-writer David Leslie Johnson with James Wan and Peter Safran producing.
The nun was actually added in reshoots after they decided to change-up a horned demon last minute. See, not every reshoot is done for damage control reason and this one has led to another entire film dedicated to it.
The original film spawned two Annabelle spin-offs, the second installment to be released in 2017.
As for The Conjuring 3, James Wan has suggested he won’t be able to direct that one, as his commitments to Aquaman likely prevent him from doing it.
However, he spoke to IGN about the potential era the third film could be set in, and it looks like we’re looking like we’re moving out of the 70’s and into 80’s horror for Conjuring 3.
“[The Warrens] do have a lot of stories so I think, organically, if we’re lucky enough to tell future chapters, there’s a lot of stuff we could be pulling from. I do have something specific but I’m not going to say it. But I will say this – I do think Conjuring 1 and 2 are both set in the 70s, I think Conjuring 3 has got to be set in the 80s.”
