The Long rumored and highly anticipated sequel to the 1982 cult classic science fiction film Blade Runner is coming soon. Warner Brothers, Sony, Columbia Pictures and Ridley Scott have brought us the first look at Blade Runner: 2049.

The original film, based on the Phillip K. Dick novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sleep?, tells the story of Rick Deckard. Deckard is a “Blade Runner”, a special agent of the LAPD, designated to track down and kill or “retire” Replicants (genetically engineered androids who are almost indistinguishable from actual humans). One of the plot points in the film and also on of its controversies has always been whether or not Deckard himself, played by Harrison Ford, is a replicant. The trailer doesn’t answer that question directly, but it does contain an interesting scene between Deckard (Harrison Ford) and the sequels lead played by Ryan Gosling.

The new film has the look and feel of the original even down to the gritty look of the city in the closing scene. Original Blade Runner screenwriter Howard Fancher is back to pen the sequel along with Michael Green who’s next two movies are Fox’s Logan and Ridley Scott’s Alien: Covenant. Ridley Scott is stepping away from the director’s chair on this one and executive producing. He’s handed the reigns off to Denis Villeneuve whose previous works include Sicario and this years critically acclaimed science fiction film Arrival.

Blade Runner: 2049 also stars Robin Wright, Ana De Armas, Jared Leto and Dave Bautista. It opens October 6, 2017.
