‘Creed’ Director Ryan Coogler Will Helm Marvel’s ‘Black Panther’

Today, Marvel announced that Fruitvale Station and Creed director Ryan Coogler will indeed direct their upcoming Black Panther solo film. This will be the first African-American lead superhero film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 42 star Chadwick Boseman will play the lead in the film T’Challa better known as the Black Panther of Wakanda. He will first be introduced in this years Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige goes onto comment on the hiring of young director Ryan Coogler:

“We are fortunate to have such an esteemed filmmaker join the Marvel family, The talents Ryan showcased in his first two films easily made him our top choice to direct ‘Black Panther.’ Many fans have waited a long time to see Black Panther in his own film, and with Ryan we know we’ve found the perfect director to bring T’Challa’s story to life.”

Black Panther comes out February 16th, 2018
