Legendary poster artist Drew Struzan, whose work film fans worldwide will recognize from his posters for the Star Wars saga, the Indiana Jones series, Blade Runner, the Back to the Future trilogy, and so much more, is returning to do the poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Even more exciting, they released a teaser poster this afternoon at D23, and by the look of things, Struzan hasn’t missed a beat.
The image, which you can see below, is our first tease of what we can expect from the marketing campaign over the next few months as Lucasfilm gets ready for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Disney Studio Head Alan Horn revealed the poster during the Lucasfilm side of the studio panel. Check it out below:
It’s beautiful, elegant, and reveals something I think we all suspected: Finn will eventually be wielding Anakin’s lightsaber in the new film. The saber, which Luke used, and lost in The Empire Strikes Back, plays a key role in the new film, and it looks like Finn will get in on the lightsaber action in the new film.
It’s great to see that Lucasfilm has brought Struzan out of retirement to do posters for the new film, but seeing as this a D23 exclusive and not the theatrical one sheet, we can only hope there’s another Struzan poster down the line for us closer to the film’s release.
Also, with this being a D23 exclusive, it also means that if you want one, you’re going to have to go hunting for it on eBay, so good luck, Star Wars fans!
