David Sandberg’s ‘Shazam!’ Indeed Shooting In Early 2018; Eyeing 2019 Release Date

Jul 20, 2017

TheWrap had suggested that Shazam! was going to be a done deal and shooting sometime in February. However, they only posted this on Twitter and didn’t take the story to print. That lapse has led to TheHollywoodReporter being the first to make it official with confirmation that it will be shooting early next year.

Although, they suggest it could begin filming either in January or February, not as definitive as TheWrap was in their original tweet. Mentioning as well a possible release date sometime in 2019.

This would confirm as well that David Sandberg (Light  Outs, Annabelle: Creation)  will indeed direct the film for New Line Cinema/Warner Bros. They also claim that his will be the next film, so I don’t think everyone should be counting on Gotham City Sirens or Suicide Squad 2 to begin before this one.

It’s possible that this could be the big announcement planned for their San Diego Comic-Con panel. Currently, it’s unknown if they’ll attempt to make casting announcements. The project has been in the works for ages with Dwayne Johnson signed-on to play his nemesis Black Adam, but it recently sounded like they weren’t going to add him to their first installment.
